Learning and skills

There is a wide range of Skills courses available across Greater Manchester. Below is a brief summary of each programme and how to find out more.

Ways to use our course search

Search Icon

Search by your location by entering your postcode or location. The map will centre to the entered location, if found. Courses will appear in the scrollable list to the left with the nearest provider at the top

My Location

Click on the ‘my location’ button (only allow, if you wish for the browser to know your location). This will centre the map to the perceived browser location. Courses will appear in the scrollable list to the left with the nearest provider at the top

Center Focus

Map centre is denoted by the icon. Distance is always calculated from this point. The centre of the map can be dragged via the mouse to a new location if required. The list will update dependant on the new location, centre of the map.

Zoom Zoom

The map can be zoomed in and out using the plus & minus buttons or by using your mouse wheel. Please be sure to have click on the map for this to function correctly.

Satellite

Right click on the map to change the map between the Road (default) view and Satellite view. The zoom can also be changed from this menu.

Right Click

Clicking on a course from the shown list will zoom the map to that location. Clicking on ‘Find out more’ will take you directly to the listed providers website to continue your journey.

Adult courses

There are a wide range of adult courses available across Greater Manchester. Many of the courses are fully funded, which means there is no cost to you, or your employer if you are currently employed. 

Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps Skills Bootcamps give people aged 19+ the opportunity to build sector-specific skills through fully-funded or co-funded flexible courses – this means there is no cost or limited cost to you.

Up to 16 weeks of training available, people will fast tracked to a guaranteed interview with a local employer. Skills Bootcamps are available in a range of industry sectors including: Digital and Technology.

Multiply

Multiply is a new national programme funded by the Department of Education to help adults aged 19+ who do not have a qualification in Level 2 Maths/Numeracy or equivalent.

The GM Multiply Scheme will support adults to improve their numeracy skills, become more confident with numbers and help them to progress in life.

Access to Higher Education

If you would like to study for a university-level degree but don't have the traditional qualifications, Access to Higher Education courses could help you to achieve your goal. Take a look at some of the options available to you.

Sector-based Work Academy Programmes

Sector-based work academy programmes (SWAPs) are an opportunity to learn new skills and get experience of working in a particular industry, for example care, construction or warehouse work.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great way to study, gain experience and earn money while you do. It is a common misconception that Apprenticeships are only for those who are entering the world of work from school or college, when in fact Apprenticeships are available at any age and are a great way to restart your career, change your career or progress in your current career. 

T-Levels

T-Levels are new two-year technical education courses for 16-18-year-olds. These free courses are for after you’ve completed your GCSEs. If you have a good idea which career you’d like to go into, and you want to learn the relevant technical skills for that career in a classroom, T-Levels could be a good choice for you.

Higher Education

There is a wide range of degree-level courses available across Greater Manchester. Whether you are looking to study full-time or you would like a more flexible approach to learning, take a look at just some of the options available to you.
